DG45FC Memory Limit

$

When I built my DG45FC m/b desktop at an Intel Channel Conference in Garden City, Long Island, New York

It came with a single 2 Gbyte Kinston Ram in one of two available slots. This was great for immediate upgrade to 4 Gbytes Ram.

I like the incredible general utility of this m/b, however I should like to give it some extra Ram headroom by installing two

Kingston KVR800D2N6K2/8G4 GB8006-6-6Non-ECCx8Elpida E2108ABSE-8G-E

as listed in the following Intel support document:

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dg45fc/sb/CS-029148.htm?wapkw=dg45fc

This appears

to allow 8 Gbytes of total DDR2 ram to be utilized on this m/b.

Kingston (who has since discontinued that product SKU# ) says their old records indicate

only 4 Gbytes total ram is supported on this m/b.....BUT their support tech indicates the possibility

that Intel bios updates may have increased that to 8 Gbytes limit.....?????

I have the latest bios installed [ IDG4510H.86A.0135.EB.EXE ] however, I find no reference to Ram updates.

The question is: Is this m/b capable of handling 8 Gbytes of Ram?

Thanks for your help.

USB boot device bug still present on DQ77MK

Greetings Intel Community:

Before I discuss the issue at hand, I do want to say that my current Intel motherboard is by far the best I have ever used in all my adventures in building PCs. It supports GNU/Linux exceptionally well and the AMT and vPro capabilities are second to none. That being said, I do have this annoying issue which requires me to employ inconvenient workarounds to mitigate the issue. What happens is that I cannot boot from any USB-connected flash drive or external hard drive without causing the motherboard to enter an infinite reboot cycle when the Intel Desktop Board logo appears at power on. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, except that I need to boot off USB for installing operating systems and whatnot.

I did discover a discussion from early last year that mentioned this software defect for booting off USB on the DQ77MK and that Intel was aware of the problem and working towards a solution (https://communities.intel.com/message/189032). Sadly, as of the latest revision of the BIOS (0064) from October 2013, which I happen to have installed at the moment, I still encounter the endless shutdown and restart loops every time I plug in a USB drive to boot off of. Since this motherboard is covered under Intel's eXtended Life Program, is there going to be an actual fix coming soon? For an otherwise stellar motherboard to have this bug is rather inexcusable, since working with USB drives at the BIOS/EFI level should be a bug-free experience.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hi folks,

My DX79SI has always had a recurring problem resuming from hibernation, Windows reports the "your firmware did not preserve the memory map...blah blah". Generally if I let it continue it works fine but lately I am having trouble with USB disks afterward.

Any ideas how to get rid of this. I have been through numerous BIOS settings and Windows settings. powercfg says only S3 state is supported (Hybrid Sleep). So, do I need to only do hybrid?

I have the latest BIOS.

Memory Issue for DZ87KLT-75K

There seems to be a problem with the XMP-3 memory setting when using 32 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133MHz (CMY32GX3M4A2133C11). Using this setting, the system:

1.) Starts up for 2 seconds

2.) Powers off

3.) Starts up with no POST for 20 seconds then proceeds to boot-up normally

This happens when the memory is clocked to 2133MHz using the XMP-3 profile setting in the BIOS. Doing a soft-shutdown also results in the same sequence of events. However, reversing the memory setting to "Automatic" changes the memory speed to 1333MHz and the system returns to normal operation/start-up. Any clue why this is happening? Has anyone else observed similar problems using Corsair Vengeance Pro memory?

I can't enter the BIOS on my DH87RL. There is no splash screen and I think the USB keyboard is not initialized before the search for a boot device. In the BIOS I selected the option "Don't wait for USB devices to initialize" (or something like that). I thought it would only affect the USB disk en cdrom devices but it looks as if the keyboard is also affected.

I have tried several things to enter the BIOS.

- hold the power button 3 seconds: I receive no beeps

- remove battery for several hours.

I did receive a message that the POST has gone wrong and the option to enter Y for the BIOS setup. I hit the keyboard several times but nothing was happening.

Three independent monitors on DZ87KLT-75K?

$

The Intel motherboard?motherboard has an HDMI connector for a monitor, and also a Thunderbolt connector. I am successfully using two independent monitors with Windows 8.1 by connecting one via HDMI and the second using a MiniDisplay port to DVI adapter + DVI cable to the monitor.

I want to add a third monitor, which the spec says is supported. All three monitors should have independent contents (extended desktop), although they will all have the same resolution.

What hardware do I need to accomplish this? Is there some adapter that converts the Thunderbolt connector to two independent DVI ports? Or do I have to add a video card?

Dimm disabled on server board s2600cp

Hi I had a s2600cp mother with 16x 8gb ram memory running windows server 2012 with out problem. The server broke so I got a new one exactly same model. This new server only recognized 10 of the 16 ram memory slots, I tryed many solutions and thought the motherboard might be defective so I change it for another one exactly same model. This new board recognize 12 of the 16 ram memory slots, I updated the bios, checked the ram memories on another computer and the work fine. If I leave only the rams on the defective slots the pc wont start. The program CPUID CPU-Z identify the 16 ram memory but not the motherboard. Also the pc dont recognize my cellphone when I connect it via usb, usb drives works fine.

The error I recieve on the bios is dimm disable couldnt initialize for those four slots

Desktop Board DH87RL (-400): BIOS reset not working after activating UEFI / no bootable devices detected

$

I have had no luck yet in getting this solved, any ideas would be highly appreciated:

My current symptoms after changing BIOS settings from "Legacy boot" to "UEFI boot" (nothing else was changed!):

1) System (WITH graphics card installed) is booting right into black screen saying "A bootable device has not been detected. Please refer to the Product Guide at  [Intel URL]"

2) System (WITHOUT graphics card) is freezing with 2 beeps + 2 beeps ("no graphics options available")

And to complicate things somewhat:

- the BIOS is not accessible at all in any of the two cases (via F2 or any other F-key)

- BIOS reset (battery out for an hour) and BIOS recovery (with latest 320) do not change the situation

Any idea how I could access the BIOS in this situation and return to "legacy boot" again?

Here is some more background:

- I built a brand new system one week ago with these components:

Desktop Board: DH87RL, board revision is -400 (first version, the latest version now being -403)

Intel processor: i5-4570 with Scythe Muygen 4 cooler

Samsung SSD 840 Evo Basic (250 GB)

  LiteOn DVD writer iHAS524

  Power supply: Enermax ETL300AWT

  Casing: Corsaire Carbide 200

  Screen: Fujitsu 17" via DVI

  Wireless USB mouse + keyboard

Initially run with integrated graphics Intel 4600, then upgraded to PCIe graphics card (XFX AMD 7790 1GB)

(This system was a recommended configuration in a PC magazine recently - and it is extremely silent and power saving, yet quite powerful when you need it, so making perfect use of the new Haswell processors)

- After building the system I updated the BIOS to 320 and adjusted some BIOS settings: fans + CPU low power mode

- I installed Windows 7 Professional successfully

So the integrated graphics worked fine, benchmarks where according to the magazine which had recommended this PC configuration (c't magazin Germany).

- After 5 days (daily operating time about 4 hours) I installed a graphics card (XFX AMD 7790 1GB) into the PCIe x16 slot

- To avoid collision of internal and external graphics I changed the BIOS setting:

  Internal graphics -> "always disable"

- I then saved BIOS settings and installed the latest AMD graphics drivers in Win 7

- Everything worked fine, benchmark results were as expected

Then I had a very stupid idea which caused the current situation ("never change a running system" - I know...):

- Just for curiosity I went into the BIOS and looked for settings to further improve system performance

- I had heard a lot about the new UEFI mode, so I activated "UEFI boot" (hoping system start would be faster - ok, now I learned that more changes are needed for UEFI to work)

- To make things worse I deactivated "Allow legacy boot"

I saved the new BIOS settings ("UEFI = on" and "Legacy boot = off") and rebooted.

Then for the first time a black screen appeared with the text stated above ("No bootable device detected...").

And no BIOS splash screen beforehand and no reaction to any key (F2 or anything else).

The system just stayed there with the black screen - all fans and lights on, but no more.

I was not worried at that time since I thought that a BIOS reset would easily bring me back to start.

But I got more and more worried while I tried everything I could imagine but nothing improved the situation:

- I tried a basic BIOS reset: removed BIOS battery and waited for an hour (still the same black screen)

- I removed the BIOS recovery jumper and loaded version 320 again via USB stick (recovery worked but still the black screen)

- I removed the graphics card and tried another BIOS reset: interestingly "two times two beeps" stated "system is missing graphics"

So BIOS reset obviously had not worked - the system still searched for a graphics card, and did not use the internal graphics!

- I re-installed the graphics card again: the beeps disappeared and the black screen appeared again

- I offered a bootable DVD - no boot, still the black screen

- I offered a bootable USB stick - no boot, still the black screen

- I removed all SATA devices (SSD, DVD) - no change

- I left battery and graphics card and power away over night (~8 hours) - and no change still !

Of course I tried BIOS recovery every time upon any change via USB stick.

The recovery always concluded "Successful, shut-down power, re-install the recovery jumper and power on again for full system reset".

So I re-installed the jumper, powered on and still the same black screen "no bootable devices detected".

So the current status is as stated in the two lines at the top:

1) WITH graphics card I get to the black screen ("no bootable devices detected")

No key seems to work - not F2 or any other F-key regardless when pressed during system start.

So I can not enter the BIOS in any way (the USB keyboard works fine though during BIOS recovery and also if used with another computer!)

2) WITHOUT graphics card the system beeps twice ("no graphics installed")

So the BIOS seems to remember that internal graphics had been deactivated - but why is it still remembering after several BIOS resets and recoveries?

It also does not matter, where I connect the DVI cable to:

- the screen will always show the black screen only when I attach the DVI cable to the first port of the graphics card (so integrated port does not work)

- only when I activate BIOS recovery (via jumper) I can connect to the integrated graphics port and it nicely shows the recovery progress

So this is really frustrating:

BIOS reset: seems not to make any difference (so no reset seems to happen), not even after removing the battery for several hours

BIOS recovery: successfully passes, but does not change anything as well (specifically resulting not in a reset, since the system is still searching for a graphics card)

What else can I try to return to "legacy boot"?

Certainly the only issue is the change to UEFI boot (perhaps together with the setting "internal graphics = always disable") and now the BIOS is not letting me in anymore...

DH87RL stuck at intel desktop board inside screen

I very recently bought this board and started setting up things. I have two SATA HDDs and each having a OS and this has become a problem with/without UEFI booting. Always ends up in no bootable media error if i connect both. Setting legacy boot and order doesn't help anyway. It boots in its own order apart from the one I specify. Hence i decided to format everything and start from the scratch. So, I inserted Windows 7 ULTIMATE, format all drives from disk 1 and disk 2 except the drive with backups. Formatting the last drive hangs for hours and hours. So I restarted the system and I end up with the intel inside screen. Nothing works beyond that. hitting f2, f7 or f10, nothing works. Connect  bootable USB stick, board detects that a new hardware is added and asks me to re enter set up. But that again ends up the same way. Really frustrated over the past 10 days with this board. Can someone help me now to boot up the machine?

Intel DZ87KLT-75K gives "CPU hot" error fresh out the box

I have a new Intel DZ87KLT-75K motherboard with an i7-4770K processor that won't boot.  I have seen two other posts of similar, but different issues.

Everything is new out of boxes and I am very careful with ESD working on nonconductive surfaces.

When I try to start up, I press the power button,  the system tries to start, the fans start up and then the "CPU hot" lights up and the system shuts off, and tries to power up again, the fans go on, the "CPU hot" light goes on and shuts off again, and system tries to power on again, and this will continue until I turn off power to the system.  There are no beeps, and the LED displays only show zeroes.

I pulled everything apart and put it back together again and the problem still remains.  Even tried getting into BIOS with just processor/heatsink and 1 RAM, but won't get past this.

Any suggestions?

Doug

DZ87KLT-75K

First off, I just want to say how sad I am to hear that the DZ87KLT-75K is going to be Intel's last motherboard.  I've owned several over the years, and they've provided me rock-solid stability to the point where I use them until they become obsolete with very few problems.

Just completed a new build this weekend and went to go get the drivers installed for this motherboard for Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, and it appears that most of the drivers are already rolled-up into Windows - cool.  The three devices I'm having issues with are:

(All showing yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager.)

  • Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus

Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

          HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0899&SUBSYS_80862046&REV_1000\4&3B8CA585&0&0201

Attempting to install drivers (AUD_Win8.1_Win8_Win7_XP_6.0.1.7040) off of Intel site eventually gives:

Realtek High Definition Audio Driver - InstallShield Wizard

Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!

          [Error Code: 0xE0000246]

And that error traces back to the following from Technet:

3758096966 (0xE0000246) Device Installer Not Ready

           Cause

A class installer or a co-installer for a service cannot run because a component on which it depends did not run.

  • PCI Simple Communications Controller

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

          PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C3A&SUBSYS_20468086&REV_04\3&11583659&0&B0

Attempting to install drivers for Intel(R) Management Engine Interface (MEI_Win8.1_1.5M_9.5.15.1730_PV) off of Intel site eventually gives:

The setup program failed to install one or more device drivers.

          Setup will exit.

(Intel Installation Framework page shows "Installing Driver: Intel(R) Management Engine Interface - Version 9.5.15.1730")

  • SM Bus Controller

Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

          PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C22&SUBSYS_20468086&REV_04\3&11583659&0&FB

Attempting to install drivers for associated package (IDU_3.2.8.089 containing smbus drivers) off of Intel site eventually gives:

          An unknown error has occurred.

          Setup will exit.

(Intel SMBus window shows "Installing Driver: Intel PCH SMBus Controller - 8C22 (Intel SMBus 2.0 Driver) - Version 6.9.1.1")

The Audio Device is obviously the Realtek, because I had it disabled in the BIOS from the start prior to the Windows clean-installation, and only just enabled it after the second two drivers showed the driver failure in Device Manager.

I'm concerned, based on the errors I've received installing most (90%) of the drivers marked for Windows 8.1 64-bit on the Intel web-site under my motherboard, that I may be missing some crucial main chipset driver, which is holding all of these other drivers and software application packages back.

Here's my hardware configuration:

1)  Intel DZ87KLT-75K Motherboard with: AA G74721-305 - BIOS is current: KLZ8711D.86A 2/17/2014 0450

2)  Intel i7-4771 (Stock heat-sink and fan from retail packaging)

3)  Seasonic X-Series Gold 80 850W Power Supply

4)  Kingston Hyper-X 4x 8GB DIMMs (2x 1600 CL10 240-Pin UDIMM Kit - KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G)

5)  Four SSD (500/256/256/128), Two SATA 4TB Seagate drives.

6)  XFX R9 280 Black OC Edition Graphics Card

7)  Corsair Obsidian 650D with two 200mm fans, and one 100mm fan.

I've ran burn-in tests for an hour or so, and temperatures seem within the happy range on all devices monitored.

Please let me know how I can fix these errors, as I'd rather not put this system into production as my main workstation if I have to rip it apart to replace the mainboard.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology - Failed Raid 5

Hello,

I have a raid 5 setup consisting of 6 hitachi drives with a total volume of 10tb.

The disks are connected directly to a raid controller on a gigabyte motherboard and I use Intel Rapid Storage Technology to manage the setup.

After running this setup happily for over 4 years I had a failed drive this week. The raid volume was then marked as Failed. I can only assume this is because I noticed the failed drive by accident and do not check daily.

After replacing the failed hard drive I have marked the new disk to spare. However the Intel software now says my volume is failed, has 1 missing disk, and has 1 normal disk outside of the raid configuration.

How can I remove the missing disk and add the new disk as its replacement? All google searches have led me to believe I need to destroy and recreate the raid volume but doing so will inevitably destroy my data.

I believe I tried everything without deleting any data, at this point in time any help is dearly appreciated. I do not want to lose 10TB of data.

DH87RL switches off one second after power on

Hello,

I can't determine the BIOS version or the serial number. I bought this Intel DH87RL in May 2013. I have never updated its BIOS.

The issue is that when I turn it on, it powers off after about 1 second. After another 1 or two seconds, it powers on automatically, then after 1 second it powers on, and so on, infintely.

What could be the cause and how to solve it?

Thanks.

D955XBK RAID1 replace drives with larger?

Hello,

I have a long running Windows 8 machine with two 300GB SATA drives in a RAID 1 Mirror (Intel D955XBK System board with an ICH7-R chipset).....  My 300GB of usable disk space is at it's capacity..... What are my upgrade options?  I really really really don't want to re-build the system from scratch.

The entire 300GB is partitioned as a C: Drive...

Is it possible to swap the drives out one-at-a-time with say 1TB drives..... letting each rebuild... then expand the partition using Windows tools??

Thanks!

RST Raid-1 Degraded then I did something wrong

$

Running Win7-64bit, DZ77GA-70K. My RAID 1 volume degraded with a error on drive 1.

Setting the drive to normal did not fix the problem.

I did not have Hot swap enabled before the drive failed,

Reading the RST troubleshooting instructions it looked like all I needed to do was to power down and install a new drive with the exact same model #.

However when I restarted the system I got the BSOD after the windows start screen appears .

I tried the Windows Startup Repair/RecoveryTools/Startup Repair and I dont think that did me any favors because now the operating system is not listed.

During BIOS Boot both drives are normal and however the volume 1 is degraded

Now if I select "start windows normally" check disk will not run indicating it cannot access the drive directly.

When I open Command Prompt the Administrator: x:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe and the Drive is X:\windows\system32>.

....

More New Info Add:

my RAID-1 is accelerated with a SDD (168GB total with 64GB Cache & 103GB Data Volume) and I assume the system starts the boot process from the SDD and the issue is accessing the HDD Volume that is degraded.

I also tried changing the comand prompt to "C" drive but it states "The system cannot find the drive specified"

Also, Durring BIOS boot the "Rapid Storage Technology - Option ROM" screen now shows: " * accelerated Disk/Volume "

RAID ID = "0"  Volumes Name = "RAID Data Volume = 103GB"  status = "Normal" bootable = "Yes", Physical Device ID = "0" SDD Cache Disk(0,1).

RAID ID = "1"  Volumes Name = "RAID 1 Cache = 64GB"  status = "Normal" bootable = "No"

RAID ID = "*2"  Volumes = "RAID 1 Volume"  status = "Rebuild" bootable = "Yes", Physical Devices " *2 & *3 " the 2ea. 1.8TB HDD's Status = "Member Disk. (2)"

The comment at the bottom: Volimes with "Rebuild" status will rebuild within the operating system.

.....

So before I sink the ship I thought I would ask for help.

Thanks,

Rod...
