DH61AG BIOS update disaster.

$

Folks,

I am...well, was, a very happy DH61AG user.  I've got three of them here, and had no problems at all.  Until this evening.

Decided I was going to upgrade one of the machines to Windows 8, so checked out the BIOS versions.  My board was running 0023.  I wanted to be running 104.

Things went as follows:

  • Tried to update to 0039.  I couldn't, I was told by the F7 BIOS flash that my existing BIOS was too old.
  • F7 upgrade to 0031, worked OK
  • F7 upgrade to 0039 failed
  • Booted in to Windows 7 (existing install of Pro x32 off mSATA SSD) and ran the Express Update within Windows to 0039
  • Rebooted OK, all OK so far
  • Express Update to 0099 - failed in Windows
  • F7 upgrade to 0099 - seemed successful
  • Rebooted, now machine won't boot off mSATA drive, reboots constantly at BIOS screen
  • Tried booting off USB stick, BIOS locks up solid
  • Trying to flash 0104 I get flash failure with "FwUpdateBufferFull" followed by 0x80000....00015 (I think, it doesn't stay on screen long)

So, now my machine won't boot, is stuck on a broken 0099, I obviously can't flash up to 0104, or flash down to something less broken.

Specs:

DH61AG

2x2GB Micron PC3-10600S-9-11-B1 DIMMs

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 wifi card (tried removing this, no change)

Crucial M4 64GB mSATA SSD

Celeron G530

DVI monitor

Dell 90W PSU

Any suggestions?

Need help to update DH61WW Bios

Hi All,

It was a second generation Motherboard (DH61WW) with Version 16 BIOS. I decided to upgrade my system to 3rd Gen Processor. I checked internet and it suggested to update the bios. I followed the steps and updated the BIOS to Ver 48 and then to 99. Now problem started and Intel ME and NW MAC is 0's. I checked all the forums and did reset of BIOS, Jumper settings, Recovery mode by removing the jumper. But in recovery there is no display at all. I tried to rewrite 99 again, 113, 116... everything failed at ME update. I am not sure what options are left for me to recover the BIOS. I am in deep trouble... Kindly help.

Matrix Sorage Console (no actions available)

A hard drive died in my Dell XPS 9000 and wouldn't boot afterwards.  I replaced both Seagate Barracuda 7200 750 GB SATA II drives with two Western Digital 1500 HLFS VelociRaptor 150 GB SATA II drives.  I went to the Dell site and downloaded the necessary drives to reinstall the Intel Matrix Storage Console V 8.9.0.1023.  The BIOS has always been set to AHCI.  My computer has a ICH10R I/O controller hub and the driver is listed as iaStor.sys which I believe is the AHCI driver.

Before the computer crashed the drives were configured as RAID 1 and I could see the volumes/array etc. in the Matrix Storage Console.  Now when I go into the Matrix Storage Console to try and recreate a similar set up  advanced mode shows my hard drives but there are no options to set anything up.  The only Action is "Rescan for plug & play devices".   What am I missing?   Thank you for any help you can provide.

I've attached screen shots of the basic and advanced screens.

Rebuilding Mirror Raid -- WHICH Drive is Being Rebuilt??

My RAID 1 mirror worked fine until a couple days ago, when it was triggered to start a rebuild. It seems to now be continuously rebuilding, in that I saw it go to 95% done, and when I looked a few hours later, it was back to 5% done. I assume one of the two underlying hard disks is flaky and should be replaced -- but which one?? The ROM BIOS control-I merely says the volume is rebuilding, and Intel Rapid Storage Technology likewise says the volume is rebuilding, and the detailed report of the two underlying drives is "normal". In sum, I see no clue from either ROM BIOS or IRST which hard drive to replace.

This is slightly dated equipment and software. The mobo is DX58SO, and the BIOS isn't the latest -- I had to stop updating because Intel's updates were breaking more things than they fixed! IRST is also not the latest: 9.6.0.1014. I figure it's risky to try to update it at this point.

What's my simplest pathway? I could disconnect one of the two drives and boot it and see if the system functions properly; if it does, then I can assume I've found the bad drive and replace it and let it rebuild again. Or if the system doesn't function with the one drive disconnected, I can disconnect the other drive instead, and see if that works any better. But is there something I can do that doesn't involve guesswork? Something that will report, for example, which underlying disk is being written? I don't want to make a mess here; I just want to make a surgical change.

Is XMP available on non-K processors? Does using XMP void processor warranty?

$

Is Intel's XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles) feature available on standard non-K (locked) Intel processors, such as the i5-4460, i5-4590 or i5-4690?  I cannot find the specification listed in the Intel ARK Menu.

Is XMP only available on Intel's K (unlocked) processors, such as the i5-4690k?

Does using XMP to allow for RAM over 1600 mhz officially void Intel's standard processor warranty?

Do other possible system changes made to allow for RAM over 1600 mhz officially void Intel's standard processor warranty, even if they aren't made with XMP?

Please let me know soon.  Thank you.

DN2800MT doesn't boot with TBS6981 PCI-E inserted

Hi all,

I've just bought a DN2800MT to use with my existing TBS6981 dual DVB-S2 card to record TV. Unfortunately the board doesn't boot (no vga output) with the sat card inserted, without it, it's fine. I thought it might be a power issue, as the sat card has additional power socket for use on some motherboards that have low power PCI-E slots, but using external power for the card doesn't help. I read on the TBS forum http://www.tbsdtv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=7823&p=27515&hilit=boot+problem#p27515 that other manufacturer's boards have had similar problems that can be fixed by a BIOS update. I tried updating the standard 0163 to 0165 and again to the just released 0166, but neither helped. The sat card works fine without external power in the older system I hope to replace, and I'm out of ideas, can anyone help?

intel Motherboard DH67BL(B3) and Usb 3.0 issue?

$

Sorry if I am bringing this up again , I have read through some of the previous posts where I got ideas of the troubleshooting steps below. I have a DH67BL motherboard and I plugged in a new Sandisk thumbdrive rated for USB 3 speeds. Whenever I try and move data from hard drive TO the thumbdrive (blue plugs) I am getting benchmark speeds between 2-6MB/Second. ?  So, I upgraded the Bios to 86A.0160 (latest one I believe) to rule that out, did not work, same speeds. Then I uninstalled the Renesas host controller and root hub 2.1.28.0 driver and reinstalled, still same slow speeds. when I plug in thumbdrive to a 2.0 port I get 6-7mb/sec speeds. I tested the thumbdrive on my laptop at work with 3.0 speeds and it works great getting over 100mb/sec speeds.....  I am running Windows 7 x64 on i3 intel processor 16gb ram, love the motherboard otherwise. Does anyone have any suggestions of something I may have missed? at the point of buying a usb 3 controller card and calling it a day....

Clean build, unable to boot to win7 DVD - DZ77GA-70K

BIOS: GAZ7711H.86A.0039.2012.0426.1622

Mobo: DZ77GA-70k

(All brand new products)

DVD drive:  ASUS DRW-241ST (SATA)

PSU: Corsair RM1000w

CPU: Intel i5 3350P @3.10 ghz

SSD: Intel SSD 730 - 480GB

Memory: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600

When PC is powered on, motherboard splash screen displays with options F2 (bios), F7 (bios update), F10 (boot menu). If I do nothing, the system resets and same screen will display briefly before a notification displaying "BIOS has detected unsuccessful POST attempt(s). Possible causes include recent changes to BIOS Performance Options or recent hardware change. Press Y to enter setup or N to cancel and attempt to boot with previous settings". If I hit F10, boot menu screen displays with:

P2: Asus DRW-24B1ST i

P5: Intel SSDSC2BP480G4

UEFI: ASUS DRW-24B1ST i  (when UEFI is enabled)

I'm able to toggle between the options, pressing enter or space on the DVD drive does not appear to have any effect other than the screen locks up and I'm unable to toggle between options and mouse ceases to move. The DVD does not begin to spin, light does not turn on.  Leaving this screen on after selecting DVD drive for 5+ minutes has no effect and i'm forced to restart the PC.  Selecting UEFI DVD option and non UEFI DVD option has the same effect.

DVD drive is set to boot first in boot order. DVD drive successfully opens and will spin.  Have tried plugging into SATA ports 0,2,3 with no change in behavior or success. Have tried two different Windows 7 DVDs - one that was successful in a previous build and one that is brand new- both are for 64bit Windows 7 home. Have tried booting with Chipset SATA mode set to AHCI and IDE with no change in result between the two.

Have tried disabling and enabling UEFI BOOT with no change in result.

I'm unsure of where to proceed from here. Is there some other BIOS setting or combination of BIOS settings that will successfully boot from the DVD drive? Do I need to update my BIOS version? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Event Viewer: irstrtsv error: Unable to read LBA sector via passthru

I have a DZ77GA-70k MB running Win7-64 and RST Raid-1.

I was troubleshooting another problem and I see this irstrtsv error in the Event Viewer.

"Error: Unable to read LBA sector via passthru. : The request is not supported."

<See attached screen shot of the Event Viewer>

The first 6 irstrtsv errors after system startup are:

"Error: Unable to read LBA sector directly. : The system cannot find the file specified."

Then the balance of the errors have the passthru reference.

My system has been running for over a year (since Jan2013) and this error started on Jan.10, 2014 of this year.

I do not see a performance issue due to the error and the problem I was troubleshooting deals with Windows Backup: VSS, SPP errors when the backup fails to complete.

This irstrtsv error occurs when the system starts, there is a cluster of 6 errors in a few seconds, then repeats every 5 minutes with another cluster of 6 irstrtsv errors and continues until I shut it down.

A couple of days ago I upgraded the RST to the latest driver 12.8.0.1016 and that did not solve the problem.

I don't remember changing the system BIOS or RST configuration or loading any application in January or in or around 1/10/2014.

Any thoughts.

Thanks,

Rod...

DH55TC not supporting RAM above 8GB

$

Hello,

I am having a Intel DH55TC motherboard with an i3 processor and WIndows 7 (64bit) Ultimate on my machine. Currently, I am having 8 GB of RAM on my board and it's working perfectly fine.

Now, due to some new requirements, I want to increase my RAM to 12 GB by adding one more 4GB module. After inserting the new RAM making a total of 12 GB, the BIOS is detecting 12GB of RAM but the OS boots up very slowly...taking around 10-15 mins and then it also runs very slow. The moment I reduce the total RAM to anything less than or equal to 8GB, things start running smoothly.

Can anyone please guide me - what should I do next?

Thanks,

Vinay Pugalia
